Purasa Marpaung, the Youth and Young Adult Director of the All Nations Seventh-day Adventist Church of Elk Grove, was born in Indonesia on March 13, 1967 and raised in a Christian Seventh-day Adventist family, He is forever grateful to God for using him as His instrument to introduce His Son, Jesus Christ, to a ninety-five percent Muslim community in which he grew up.

In a climate of intolerance and hostility between Muslims and Christians and in a place where political correctness often fostered a contemptuous anti-Christian bias and where sharing the Christian faith was often rewarded with hate crimes, Purasa courageously accepted after being elected in 1985 as a youth religious liberty representative in a government high school during his senior year.

In 1986, God called him to a Seventh-day Adventist University in Bandung, Indonesian, where he pursued a four-year college degree in business. Upon graduating in 1990, due to escalating economic and political unrest, at the urging of his brother, he immigrated to the United States of America.
	
In 1995, Purasa married the former Miss Ester Suwarso who loves serving God and her family. Mrs. Marpaung is a registered nurse. God blessed the couple with three children: Mark, George, and a beautiful little girl, Rachel. 

About a year after their marriage, God called the couple to Sacramento where Ester began a new job as a registered nurse. While faithfully and humbly trying to make a living as a bus operator, Purasa, served as one of the youth leaders of the local Indonesian Sacramento Church which they eventually joined. He also served as treasurer of the Indonesian Branch Sabbath School. Three years after, they became active in the children’s ministry of the Sacramento Central SDA Church where they transferred their membership.

Purasa knew all along that God had a plan for him to become a minister. In 2002, he got an opportunity to study for the ministry at Pacific Union College, Angwin California.  Thereafter, he pursued graduate studies at Andrews University Theological Seminary in Berrien Springs, Michigan. By God’s grace he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in December, 2006. Immediately after, he started serving the Lord as a lay pastor at Southgate SDA Church in Sacramento.

For the Marpaung family, Matthew 18:4 is the inspiration of their spiritual journey. His primary ministerial goals are to support family units in and out of the church, and to inspire the development of every young people’s spiritual vision, leading them to a full devotion to Jesus Christ.
